# Phase 4.5 Implementation Report — Credit Note & Customer Adjustments

**Phase:** 4.5 Credit Note & Customer Adjustments
**Status:** PASS & VERIFIED
**Date:** September 4, 2026
**Role:** Senior Enterprise Architect, Financial Systems Architect, Database Architect, Security Engineer, Lead Laravel Engineer

---

## Executive Summary

Phase 4.5 completes the **Credit Note & Customer Adjustment** engine in TANRAIL ONE (`app/Domains/Core/Services/CreditNoteService.php`). It implements `CreditNoteService::applyCreditNoteToInvoice()`, allowing issued commercial Credit Notes to be applied against outstanding customer Invoices.

The implementation enforces transactional atomicity (`DB::transaction()`), pessimistic row locking (`lockForUpdate()`), string decimal precision (`DECIMAL(15,4)`), customer alignment validation, and multi-tenant security (`CrossOrganizationException`).

Zero General Ledger posting logic was added (GL postings remain strictly deferred to Phase 4.7). All 205 baseline tests continue passing, alongside 13 new Phase 4.5 feature verification tests (totaling 218 tests, 397 assertions, 0 failures, 0 errors).

## 1. Files Created & Modified

### Modified Service
- `app/Domains/Core/Services/CreditNoteService.php`
  - Added `applyCreditNoteToInvoice(CreditNote $note, Invoice $invoice, float|string $amount, ?int $userId = null): CreditNote`
  - Updated `recalculateCreditNoteTotals()` to compute line subtotals via `bcmul(quantity, unit_price, 4)`.

### New Feature Test Suite
- `tests/Feature/Core/Phase45CreditNoteTest.php`
  - 13 feature test cases covering draft creation, line calculation, issuance, partial/full invoice application, over-application rejection, invalid state rejection, cross-tenant rejection, customer alignment rejection, transaction rollbacks, decimal precision, and voiding.

### Documentation & Logs

## 2. Domain Logic & Invariants

1. **State Machine Validation**:
   - `CreditNote` must be in `ISSUED` status to be applied.
   - `Invoice` must be in `ISSUED` or `PARTIALLY_PAID` status (cannot apply to `DRAFT`, `CANCELLED`, `VOIDED`, or `PAID`).
2. **Customer & Multi-Tenant Boundaries**:
   - Enforces `CreditNote.organization_id == Invoice.organization_id` & `CreditNote.business_unit_id == Invoice.business_unit_id`.
   - Enforces `CreditNote.customer_id == Invoice.customer_id`.
3. **Credit & Balance Validation**:
   - `amount <= note.remaining_credit` (string BCMath check `bccomp`).
   - `amount <= invoice.balance_due` (string BCMath check `bccomp`).
4. **Commercial Adjustment Invariant**:
   - Does NOT create cash receipts or `PaymentAllocation` records.
   - Adjusts `invoice.balance_due` directly.
   - If `invoice.balance_due == 0` and zero cash payments exist, invoice status becomes `CANCELLED` (full credit reversal). If cash payments exist, status becomes `PAID`.
   - If `note.remaining_credit == 0`, note status becomes `APPLIED`.
